Model Information
1969 - 1975
In the 1969-75 period White Farm Equipment offered the White-Oliver 1655 tractor. In gasoline and diesel versions it delivered 70 PTO horsepower, but this was reduced to 66 horsepower on LP-gas. All of the chassis and axle combinations available with the 1555 were also available for the 1655 model. In addition, the 1655 was available in a four-wheel-drive version. It had the further choice of differential or planetary gear reduction on the rear axles. Regular or high-speed versions of the six-speed transmission were available, and Oliver offered three auxiliary transmission styles. These included the Hydra-Power drive, Over/Under Hydraul-Shift, or the Creeper Drive. With the high-speed transmission, the 1655 had road speeds up to 22 mph. Oliver used their own six-cylinder diesel engine in the 1655. This six-cylinder design included a 3 7/8 x 4-inch bore and stroke for a 283 cid. The Rated speed was 2,200 rpm, and the compression ratio was 16 to 1. The 1655 was tested in Nebraska in May 1970; the results appear in Test No. 1041. In this test, the 1655 Diesel delivered slightly over 70 PTO horsepower and nearly 62 horses at the drawbar.
