In 1957 a German truck opened the testing season. This year a Swedish tractor would have the honor of starting the testing series. The T425 featured a Volvo B-16-C four-cylinder engine rated at 2,000 rpm and carrying a 3.125 x 3.15-inch bore and stroke for a 97.6 CID. Weighing 3,173 pounds, it was equipped with forward speeds of 2.12, 3.65, 5.88, and 14.2 mph. An additional 793 pounds of ballast was added to each rear wheel during Tests F, G, and H. Low gear yielded a Test G maximum pull of 3,659 pounds at I.84 mph with a slippage of 14.72%. The ten-hour run of Test H was made in second gear. At a rated drawbar load of 17.04 horsepower, this tractor pulled 1,811 pounds at 3.53 mph with a slippage of 3.84%. Fuel economy was recorded at 10.01 horsepower hours per gallon of gasoline. Test L yielded 103% of rated-speed torque at 80% of rated engine rpm. Under a 100% maximum belt load of 23.99 horsepower, the T425 achieved a fuel economy of 10.6 horsepower hours per gallon of gasoline — this figure rose to 10.71 under a Test D rated load of 21.27 horsepower. No repairs or adjustments were noted during 46 hours of running time.
