Model Information
1949-1954
The Model R was the first John Deere tractor that utilized a diesel engine. Starting the tractor was a bit of a task, using nine horsepower two cylinder gas engine to turn the larger diesel engine through manually enguaging starting drives and relasing decompression levers makes for an interesting sight at farm shows. The model R was also the first john Deere tractor to be equiped with live PTO and an optional cab.
