Allis-Chalmers came out with this D series tractor to help suit the needs of larger farmers. It was. The first D sereis tractor, along side the D-17, to have a six cylinder engine. The D-17 was also the first Diesel tractor in the industry to come with a turbocharger, which boosted the horsepower and fuel economy. It was aviable as a gas, LP, and diesel model. In 1965 the Series II D-21 came out which was turbocharged.
