Tractor Info

1960-1965

Standard tire equipment on this tractor included 11-28 rear and
5.50-16 inch front tires. With a bare weight of 4,179 pounds, the 850 Diesel assumed a test weight of 5,874 pounds with the addition of suitable liquid and cast iron ballast. Six forwards speeds were available, ranging fron 2.17 to 14.7 mph. Using third gear, a two- hour economy run made at maximum available power indicated a pull of 2,536 pounds at 4.57 mph with 7.57% slippage for a maximum output of 30.93 horsepower at the drawbar. Fuel economy in this test totaled 13.64 horsepower hours per gallon.
The economy figure remained virtually static at 13.65 during a ten-hour run made at 75% pull. This test indicated an output of
24.53 drawbar horsepower, a pull of 1,893 pounds at 4.86 mph and slippage of 5.32%. David Brown used their own four-cylinder diesel engine in the 850 tractor. Rated at 2,000 rpm, it carried a 3 Vi x 4 inch bore and stroke for a 154 CID. At rated engine speed a maximum of 33.56 PTO horsepower was observed, together with a fuel economy of 15.54 horsepower hours per gallon. A PTO test run made at 540 PTO rpm and a corresponding 1,619 crankshaft rpm yielded 28.24 horsepower and a fuel economy of 16.62 horsepower hours per gallon. No repairs or adjustments were noted during 47 hours of running time. |
