Universal Farm Motor | 1911 |
American-Abell offered the “Universal Farm Motor” in 1911. It was the same tractor being built by Universal Tractor Company at Stillwater, Minnesota, and sold by Minneapolis Threshing Machine Company, and others. The design was later used by Rumely for several years in their GasPull tractor.
In 1874, John Abell built a large plant after a fire destroyed his shop, and commenced the manufacture of portable steam engines. He began building steam traction engines in 1886, calling them the “Cock O’ The North” line. After great success, John Abell sold the company in 1902. It was purchased jointly by Advance Thresher Company and Minneapolis Threshing Machine Company.
