The Type A was a utility tractor manufactured by David Brown. It was the first production tractor with the Ferguson three-point system, and followed the success of the “Black Tractor”. It had two engine options, a Coventry-Climax four-cylinder gasoline engine, or a David Brown 2.0L four-cylinder gasoline engine. It was a 4×2 2WD with manual steering, drum brakes, a three-speed gear transmission, and an open operator station.
