1957 - 1958

Production of the Oliver 99 began already in 1937. In the twenty years up to 1957, various changes and modifications occurred. It appears that the Super 99 may have been introduced already in 1954; Oliver’s own serial number lists suggest that it was 1957, yet the industry listings show that this happened in 1954. To support the latter contention, Oliver Super 99 tractors were tested in Nebraska in August of 1955. Only the diesel version was tested. The conventional Oliver diesel style is shown in Test No. 557, and the Super 99 with a GM Diesel engine is manifested in Test No. 556. Oliver Super 99 tractors were available with gasoline or diesel engines. Of the latter, two styles were offered…the conventional six-cylinder Oliver diesel, or the three-cylinder, two-cycle GM diesel. The latter was offered with a torque converter unit which was another ’first’ for an Oliver tractor. The GM diesel used a 4 1/4 x 5-inch bore and stroke for a 213 cid. The Rated speed was 1,675 rpm. This delivered about 80 belt horsepower, making it one of the most powerful farm tractors in existence at that time
