Model Information
1918-
Austin had been building construction machinery for some time prior to their 1918 entry into the tractor business. The Multipedal 18-35 was a heavyweight crawler model weighing 10,500 pounds. The Automatic engine had four cylinders of 5 1/2-inch bore and 6-inch stroke. Exceptionally long tracks were provided, with the weight being distributed over six rollers on each side. The final drive was made through roller chains to the bull gears. Reminiscence of those days recalls that engines of that size could be anything but “ automatic” when it came time to start up — especially on a cold winter morning.
