Model Information
1948-1955
The Allis-Chalmers Model G tractor announced in 1948 heralded a new era in farm power. Designed especially for small farms, vegetable gardeners, and nurserymen, the Model G was a small compact tractor which A-C called the “central unit of a new system of motorized farm tools.” This so-called new system did in fact include an impressive array of implements that included plows, planters, and cultivators. Produced at the company’s Gadsden (Alabama) Works, the Model G featured a rear-mounted engine. This provided the necessary traction for the rear wheels and at the same time gave the operator unequalled vision while planting and cultivating delicate crops.
In addition to its use by truck farmers, Allis-Chalmers also attempted to promote the Model G for the soybean farmer. A special catalog devoted to this purpose illustrated a special two-row drill planter for soybeans. One, two, and three-row tool bar cultivators were also available in a number of configurations to suit specific row widths and cultivating practices. Because of their limited production, their extreme usefulness in certain applications, and due to their unique construction, the Allis-Chalmers Model G tractors have become a highly sought after machine by collectors.
