Tractor Info

1914

The “Diamond M” tractor was offered by Diamond Match Company in 1914. It followed prevalent tracklayer practice with a front-mounted “ tiller wheel”. Steering was accomplished by this method, assisted by a friction steering device. Power was provided by a four-cylinder in-line engine of 75 brake horsepower, giving about 55 horses at the drawbar. Diamond Match negotiated a deal with an Eastern manufacturing firm whereby the tractors were to be cast and partially finished elsewhere. Final machine work, erection, and sales were conducted from the Chico plant. Apparently, the partnership was of short duration.
