Model Information
1970-1974
Oliver 1955 tractors, like most other Oliver models, used a six-cylinder diesel engine. Four styles of Row Crop tractors were built, plus Wheatland, Ricefield, and four-wheel-drive models. Closed center hydraulics were another feature, along with the choice of Category II or Category III three-point hitch systems. Hydraulic triple-disc brakes were featured, as was a hydraulically operated PTO shaft. With the Over/Under Hydraul-Shift, the 1955 offered eighteen forward speeds, and with the Oliver Hydra-Power drive, twelve different speeds were available. Standard equipment included power steering. Nebraska Test No. 1055 was run on the Oliver 1955 tractor in October 1970. This test revealed a maximum output of 108 PTO horsepower. The 310 cubic inch, six-cylinder engine used a 3 7/8 x 4 3/8 inch bore and stroke. The Rated speed was 2,400 rpm. Although the four-wheel-drive option was built with a fixed tread, the wheels could be switched for a tread width of 66 or 70 3/4 inches; with the use of spacers, this could be extended to 80 inches. A factory option was the no spin differential which operated automatically to reduce front wheel spin-out. White Farm Equipment built the 1955 with several dual-wheel variations. Included were dual-flange hubs and 5 1/2 or 11-inch spacers. Double-bevel rims provided even more flexibility. Powerjuster or demountable rims were available at the purchaser’s option. A roll bar was optional, as was a steel canopy. In addition, the 1955 could be furnished with a factory-installed, fully-enclosed cab. The 1755,1855, and 1955 tractors used a hydraulically operated clutch which eliminated the need for occasional clutch adjustment.
