Tractor Info

1924

In spite of its rugged mechanical design, it became ever more obvious that the heavy, cumbersome tractor was on the way out. Townsend rose to the task with its 12-20 model first offered in 1924. The unbearable competition of the 1920s was topped off by the Great Depression. Townsend was taken over by LaCrosse Boiler Company at LaCrosse, Wisconsin. They continued to build the 12-20 for a short time after their 1931 acquisition of the Townsend interests, and also offered the 20-40 and 30-60 models.
