Originally Central Tractor Company in Greenwich, Ohio, the name was later changed to Centaur. Between 1919 and 1920 the first Centaur model A was produced. Around 1934 the company applied for a patent on their “Klear View” design. This tractor allowed the operator to see the ground beneath the tractor. They began building their KV series tractors in 1935.
The Central Tractor Company was originally found in 1921 and the name was later changed to the Centaur Tractor Company in 1928. The company went on to have significant debt issues in 1940 and was sold to the LeRoi Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin which supplied engine for the Centaur tractors. Around September of 1954 the property and plant in Greenwich was sold to Westinghouse Air Brake Company. Production eventually ceased in the 1950’s and the Centaur name disappeared from the tractor world.
