Undermounted plows were a passing fancy of power farming. The length of the Birrell Motor Plow was such that it must have taken something like forty rods just to turn around. Regardless of its drawbacks, this machine and many others of the unique design served a useful purpose in the evolution of the tractor. They proved what wouldn’t work.
The Birrell Motor Plow gained brief popularity about 1910. Its manufacturer aimed it specifically at the Canadian market.
