The largest size in the Russell lightweight series was the
“Big Boss” , variously rated as a 20-35 or a 20-40. Its fourcylinder
engine had a 5% inch bore and 7 inch stroke, and
was capable of a 3,500 pound drawbar pull. Its design was
nearly identical to the smaller sizes. Chain steering was an
outdated feature which stayed with the Russell tractors
up to the end. Two forward speeds were provided. The
20-40 could pull a five-bottom plow on average soil.
