Model Information
1920-1922
The Stinson Heavy Duty 18-36 tractor appeared in 1920. Until production ended in early 1922, this comprised the Stinson tractor line. Also known as the Model 4-E, this outfit featured a conventional front axle. The rear wheels on this tractor, as on the earlier models, measured 60 inches in diameter with a 12 inch face. Stinson announced plans to move to Eau Claire, Wisconsin in 1920, but this did not materialize. The company’s address was Superior,Wisconsin in the 1922 directory listings.
For the 1918 season, an improved 18-36 tractor was built by Imperial Machinery Company of Minneapolis. It retained the telescopic guide wheel featured on earlier tractors, but used a larger Beaver four-cylinder engine of 4 3/4 inch bore and 6 inch stroke. All gears were enclosed and in oil. A Kingston carburetor and Dixie high tension magneto complemented the Beaver engine. A one-piece semi-steel frame with main bearings machined in the frame assured proper alignment of the bearings for the life of the tractor.
