1939-1953

Model D is the longest production run of any John Deere model. Over the 30 production time, there were many iterations of the model D. The first tractors used a 26″ spoked flywheel, then the 24″ spoked flywheel to the rarest version nickel hole. In 1935 Deere and Co. introduced the first official Industrial tractor with the model DI, John Deere experimented with crawler versions, Exhibit A and Exhibit B versions. In 1939 under the guidance of Henry Dryfus and Associates most of the unstyled tractors took on a more streamlined look. Later on turning brakes were added along with electric start and lights. The very last run of the Model D tractor was nicknamed the “Streeter D’s” as they were said to have been assembled in a back alley of the factory due to an influx of orders after the assembly line was scheduled to be disassembled to make way for a new line of tractor assembly.
