SUMMARY:Education of Yesterday 19th Annual Farm Show
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to the “Education of Yesterday” Annual Farm Show located at 3685 Cass Irish Ridge Rd. Dresden\, Ohio 43821 owned by the Moore Family.\nOur mission is to preserve old machinery\, to teach and show the younger generations how things were done in the past!\n**FREE admission but we kindly ask for a donation. Tickets for the train rides and digger $1.00 each**\nTHANK YOU for bringing your family and friends to DISCOVER Country Crossroads. SEE and LEARN things you don’t see at most other shows. We feature all types of Working Antique Farm Equipment & Construction Equipment. Plus large displays of Tractors\, Trucks\, Fire Trucks\, Cars and Equipment! Something for everyone!\nThe late Kenny Moore\, Jr. had a vision and great imagination as he started this great annual event on his farm named Country Crossroads. He grew up on a farm in Killbuck\, Ohio and came to Dresden when he was 19 years old to start a farm machinery business till his death in 2013. His love for tractors and trains can be seen here. The Cracker Jack Railroad and Captain Bryant’s Grist Mill were some of his biggest projects. He made several trips to Baraboo\, Wisconsin to bring home the train engines and to take up the narrow gauge railroad and ties. Then laying it on the grounds. The mill was originally located in Dresden so with a limited crew they took it down and reassembled here. He wanted to share his dream with everyone and to see the faces of the young children light up. He had two words in his vocabulary you would hear every day. “THINK” and “LERM” You are thinking LERM is not a word but it is was to him and now to our family.\nL = Life E = Education R = Responsibilities M = Memories\nHopefully now you will use his words daily and help us to keep his memory and dream going. All donations go directly back into the grounds and upkeep of the equipment so we can continue the show again next year. Your support and donations are greatly appreciated. Enjoy the day!!\nEVENTS: (Some weather permitting) Shelling corn using a belt-driven Sheller and a silo-filler demonstration making feed for cattle will be two of the old-fashioned methods offered. Another will be making miniature round bales of hay using the first round baler ever made. Also square hay baling with stationary and pull type balers. Picking corn with two-row corn picker or pull type picker operating in the fields. Chopping corn with old ensilage cutter-blower. Will be harvesting soybeans if they’re ready with an old AC pull type combine. Due to the ever changing weather most of these will start in the early afternoon to give time for the dew to dry. A cord saw will be used to make firewood and show kids how old wood burner stoves worked. Large sawmill running. Tractor’s plowing – disking. Display of Hit & Miss Gas Engines and large engines. Blacksmith/forger on grounds. Construction equipment such as Dozers\, excavators\, track hoes\, old shovel loaders\, road graders pull type and Motorized\, Dump trucks & backhoes will be working & moving lots of dirt around! Poker Run. A small backhoe that young kids can operate with adult supervision! Lots of fun!! Kids games and activities! Train Rides Large and small! Tractor wagon rides around the mill and to different events. Captain Bryant’s Grist Mill Museum includes a Large Farm Toy Display on 2nd floor\, displays of antique tools\, machinery and more. SUMMARY:American Thresherman Assoc.\, Inc. 64th Annual Steam\, Gas\, & Threshing Show
DESCRIPTION:The American Thresherman Association is strongly rooted in Pinckneyville’s history. Exhibitors\, vendors and spectators will travel from all across the United States\, and sometimes even from other countries to gather and reminisce about simpler times. Last year marked the 60th annual show. In 1959\, the group formed in Highland\, Illinois\, where they held their first two shows. For their third year\, 1962\, they moved their show to Pinckneyville\, where they have gathered on every third weekend in August since to exhibit equipment and demonstrate the operations of that equipment. They assemble with old friends and make new ones as they proudly tell stories about the equipment on display. When asked why they continue to put on this show year after year\, Board members will tell you that it is because they never want to lose track of the past. The Board and The Association’s members want others to realize how our ancestors worked the land and how the “Progress of Power” revolutionized the agricultural history of our country. Members feel keenly that it is important to maintain this equipment from our history\, to demonstrate the beginnings of our agricultural history and to educate the current generations. \nThe show will starts Wednesday\, August 16th with a show preview and a tractor parade through town at 5:00 p.m. On\nThursday\, August 17th the show opens for full activity & demonstration daily and goes through Sunday\, August 20th. The majority of the activities and demonstrations will begin on Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. \nThis year features Illinois J. I. Case Collectors and Side Shaft Engines. An antique auto show & swap meet will be Sunday\, August 20th\, all vehicles prior to 1968 are welcome. \nShow attractions Include:\nBlacksmithing\, steam engines\, wheat threshing\, a veneer mill\, saw mill\, grist mill\, dynamometer\, gas engines and tractors\, baker fans\, plowing with steam engines\, tractors and horses\, rope making\, broom corn threshing and broom making\, and feature tractor plowing events. There will be a kids’ tractor pull on Saturday\, August 19th as well as a large flea market. Illinois Tractor Pull Association tractor pulls will be held Thursday through Saturday nights at 7:00 p.m. Worship Services\, The Antique Auto Show and Swap Meet\, Antique Tractor Pulls will be held Sunday August 20th. \nExhibitors are encouraged and are always welcome. Besides exhibits and activities located within the fairgrounds\, the ATA utilizes several acres to the west of the grounds where field demonstrations will be held. These will feature the giants of the prairie. Two Case 110-horsepower steam traction engines will pull gang plows and turn the soil much as they did when they broke prairie grounds one hundred years ago. Special plowing events for the Feature Tractor are again planned for Friday and Saturday. There will be earth moving activities on site using crawlers and heavy equipment of all kinds. There will be several huge “prairie” gas tractors on display and in demonstrations in the field\, you won’t want to miss any of it!
