    Description:

LOOKING TO TRADE toward a smaller John Deere compact tractor with loader and mower such as a 755/855/770/870 or similar. Cash price is $7000 if buying outright. But would really prefer to trade.

1984 Ford 340A heavy-duty skip loader/industrial tractor. This is the industrial version of the 3600/4600 farm tractor. Machine is cosmetically rough, but will work all day long and hardly use any fuel. Total hours unknown, as the meter is broken (common with these older Fords). It has the 47 HP 3-cylinder diesel engine which starts instantly, even on the coldest day of the year, without any starting aids. Has the 6 & 4 manual-reversing transmission with live 540 PTO and differential lock, and has the heavier rear axles from the 4600 with internal wet brakes. Category 1 three-point hitch with draft control. Two sets of wheel weights (about 90-100lbs a piece). Loader is strong and will lift 1000 lbs easily. It has the heavier-duty welded tube front axle with true hydrostatic power steering – not the cast one-piece axle with power assist steering like the earlier Ford industrials.

This is a heavy tractor and great for yard chores, loading dump trucks, or brush-hogging. It has wear and tear, to be expected for the age and hours – engine has some blowby, the loader control valve has some play, loader arms have been braced/patched and the bucket pins are worn, and it has some hydraulic leaks. Could also use a new seat. But the tractor is perfectly usable as-is. Take it home and put it right to work. I just serviced it last week with all new fluids, filters and grease. New battery last year. This tractor has served me well and has not given me any major trouble – looking for something smaller and more maneuverable around my yard and shop building. Located in East Earl, PA near Shady Maple Smorgasbord – come check it out.
