1947-1952

A new model Ford tractor, the 8N, was introduced in July, 1947. It was characterized by a distinctive gray and red finish. Dearborn Motor purchased Wood Bros., Inc. of Des Moines, Iowa in 1947. Wood Bros. had long been identified as a steam engine and thresher builder. By 1947, Wood Bros, was building corn pickers, combines, and other farm machinery. Signifying Ford’s intent to become a full line manufacturer, there were 18 implements in the 1947 line, but this figure swelled to some 400 different machines by June, 1952. In 1949 alone, Ford built 103,463 Model 8N tractors. The Ford 8N was powered by a Ford 2.0L 4 cylinder gasoline engine. This tractor was a part of the Ford N series and was originally priced at $1,404. This tractor had a 4×2 2WD chassis and a 4 speed transmission. This Utility tractor was in production out of Highland Park, Michigan.
